Sustainability Perceptions across Generations in Family

15 January @ 11:00 - 12:30 CET

Research seminar – Cluster Tourism, Marketing and Regional Development – Speaker: Anita Zehrer – MCI The Entrepreneurial School, Austria

Family firms (FFs), the most prevalent type of business, are considered to be more successful in promoting sustainable development than non-family businesses due to their family management. However, most family businesses only last for one or two generations. The persistence of family businesses across generations may be something that governments, legislators and society want to encourage to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Although there are many examples of successful generational transitions in family businesses that maintain or increase their commitment to sustainability, there is a lack of research on the exact knowledge and practices that are passed from one generation to the next to promote sustainability.

Bio: Anita Zehrer holds the position of Professor and serves as the Head of the Family Business Center at MCI The Entrepreneurial School ®. Her scholarly pursuits are characterized by a breadth of research interests, with a primary emphasis on the landscape of family business management and entrepreneurial behavior in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). The scholarly impact of Dr. Zehrer’s work is evidenced by publications in leading business management and tourism journals.
