Fraunhofer Italia Research Scarl – Innovation Engineering Center is a non-profit research institution, first legally independent foreign affiliate in Italy of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. It was founded in 2009 in Bolzano by Assoimprenditori Alto Adige and with the support of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and has been operating since 2017 at NOI Techpark. Here researchers work together with public and private stakeholders of all sizes and sectors on current applied research topics with the aim of achieving a dual transformation: digitalization and sustainability. Applied research means for Fraunhofer Italia to translate scientific findings into commercially viable, tailor-made innovations and pragmatic solutions for companies. It promotes and conducts application-oriented research with relevance and impact for the direct benefit of industry and handcraft, particularly regional and national small and medium-sized enterprises through contractual relationships or research projects.
