The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano was founded in 1997. It is a niche university, with a strong international outlook. The teaching and research programmes, which revolve around five faculties and seven competence centres in the fields of Economics, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences, Education and Design, are the result of a tight link with the territory, at the same time, the university is located in one of the most attractive regions in Europe at the interface between the German-speaking and Italian cultural and economic areas and is characterized by a high level of internationalization testified by trilingualism in teaching and research, by the high percentage of students and teaching staff from abroad, and by the taught modules on offer and research projects that are linked to international and inter-regional networks. Among its competence centres, the The Competence Centre for Economic, Environmental and Social Sustainability is a multi-disciplinary and cross-faculty centre of excellence whose main objective is to study the economic, environmental and social aspects of policies and actions aimed at sustainable development in South Tyrol and to develop innovative approaches and solutions to be used in their implementation.
