SUMMARY:Bridging Epistemic and Climate Justice: Insights from the Field
DESCRIPTION:Public lecture with Manisha Desai\, Executive Director of the Center for Changing Systems of Power and the Empowerment Trust Endowed Professor of Global Citizenship at Stony Brook University \nAs various global entities\, including the recently concluded COP29\, emphasize we are in the midst of an ecological crisis that is exacerbated by the crisis of social inequalities and political polarization. Yet\, the solutions offered to “the damage is done” are variation on the same ideas that got us in the crises in the first place\, i.e.\, growth now sustainable and inclusive.  There is no explicit critique of growth-based and market-oriented development nor a rethinking of “nature” that contributed to the intersecting crises of inequalities\, climate change\, loss of biodiversity\, and species extinction\, among others. Therefore\, drawing upon feminist\, indigenous\, and abolitionist thinkers\, I suggest that what we need is a fundamental transformation in how and what we produce\, consume\, redistribute and relate to each other and to all living and non-living entities on this earth. Towards that end\, I offer sustainable societies defined along epistemic\, economic\, and political dimensions as a way forward. \nManisha Desai is the Executive Director of the Center for Changing Systems of Power and the Empowerment Trust Endowed Professor of Global Citizenship at Stony Brook University. Her areas of research and teaching include gender and globalization/development\, transnational feminisms\, global justice\, particularly climate justice movements and human rights. Manisha’s current research includes women’s rights\, land rights\, and climate justice in India and NE United States. As a senior research associate of the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development\, Manisha is part of the Global Network for Research and Action for a new eco-social contract. She is on the Steering Committee of the Federation of Feminist Journal Editors that is seeking to establish a feminist\, knowledge commons outside commercial publishing to ensure the free circulation of feminist knowledge across borders and language barriers.\nManisha was awarded the Sociologist for Women in Society’s 2015 Distinguished Feminist Award and received the 2016 Faculty Mentor Award from the Compact for Faculty Diversity in the U.S. She has served in many leadership capacities including as President of Sociologist for Women in Society. \nLanguage: English \nRegistration: Microsoft Virtual Events Powered by Teams \nEvent website: Bridging Epistemic and Climate Justice: Insights from the Field

SUMMARY:Progressive politics? The European climate movement & Black Lives Matter
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging discussion exploring the impact of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests on European climate activism. \nThe Center for Climate Change and Transformation and the Institute for Minority Rights are proud to invite you to a special webinar exploring the impact of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests on European climate activism. \nTo what extent did climate activist organizations change their goals and tactics because of the BLM protests in 2020? This webinar explores the extent to which European branches of Extinction Rebellion and Fridays for Future reframed their aims and changed their tactics to stop the oppression of minorities during those protests. Some activists believe that BLM is a distinct movement\, albeit one connected to climate action. In such cases\, participants advocate for allyship but not necessarily for a new formulation of their own organization’s goals. However\, other activists see BLM as a catalyst for change in the climate movement that has long been associated with having conservative roots. Overall\, the impact of BLM on the progressive aspects of the climate movement appears minimal. There is a need for more research on intersectionality in social movements\, and how contemporaneous social movements impact each other’s understanding of “progressive politics”. \nThis event is part of the ASCEND – ClimAte JuStiCe and INtersectionality: from ADaptation to Transformation project. \nLanguage: English \nRegistration (required by 28.11.2024): WEBINAR – Progressive Politics\, the European Climate Movement and Black Lives Matter \nProgram: 1731575060-webinar_progressivepolitics.pdf \nEvent Website: Progressive politics?
\nSprache/lingua: Deutsch & Italiano \nAnmeldung/Registrazione (innerhalb/entro il 25.11): INNO.CIRCLE | Gemeinsam KLW BAU | 26/11/24 DE-IT \nProgramm/Programma: DE_PowerPoint Presentation; IT_PowerPoint Presentation \nEvent website: Gemeinsam auf dem Weg zur Kreislaufwirtschaft | IDM Südtirol; Insieme verso l’economia circolare | IDM Alto Adige \n  \n

SUMMARY:Conciliare gestione forestale\, biodiversità e adattamento al cambiamento climatico: mission impossible?
\nLingua: italiano \nRegistrazione: Naturmuseum Südtirol – Kalender \nSito dell’evento: Calendario eventi – Naturmuseum Südtirol (natura.museum)

SUMMARY:Sustainability reporting and cooperatives: future challenges and opportunities
DESCRIPTION:Non-financial reporting is receiving increasing attention from practitioners and academics. In this context\, sustainability reporting has assumed a key role. \nThe spread of sustainability reporting within companies over the past two decades is mainly due to increased awareness of sustainability issues\, stakeholder scrutiny of corporate behavior\, and legal obligations. In fact\, Directive 2014/95/EU on the disclosure of non-financial information\, enacted in 2017\, has led to a spike in the adoption of these reporting methods. Most organizations are adopting the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) as their reporting tool\, which is intended to align the needs of companies and stakeholders to have transparent information about their sustainability. This type of impact measurement is added to existing tools such as social impact measurement that cooperatives are required to fulfil. \nThe main question this seminar aims to address is how sustainability reporting and social impact measurement can be valuable tools for cooperatives as well as the potential and limitations of its applicability in the cooperative world. The experiences of practitioners\, theoretical perspectives and empirical evidence presented by academics will foster reflections and enrich the discussion on this issue. \nLanguage: English\, German and Italian \nRegistration: Sostenibilità e cooperative: sfide e opportunità future – Login \nEvent website (EN/DE/IT): “Sustainability reporting and cooperatives: future challenges and opportunities” / Free University of Bozen-Bolzano

SUMMARY:I decreti in materia di fiscalità\, governance e sostenibilità
\nLingua: italiano \nRegistrazione \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nin presenza: I decreti in materia di fiscalità\, governance e sostenibilità: nuove regole (e opportunità) per le imprese – Login (unibz.it)\non-line: Microsoft Virtual Events Powered by Teams\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSito dell’evento: I decreti in materia di fiscalità\, governance e sostenibilità / Libera Università di Bolzano (unibz.it) \nProgramma: \n \n \n \n \n Loading...\n \n \n \n \n \n Taking too long?\n \n \n \n Reload document \n |\n \n Open in new tab \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Circular economy\, construction and social sustainability
DESCRIPTION:New projects\, synergies and opportunities in South Tyrol. \nThe circular economy is a regenerative model that extends the life cycle of products\, raw materials\, and resources by promoting reuse\, recycling\, maintenance\, and reconditioning. This approach reduces waste and creates new business opportunities but requires a rethinking of production and consumption processes\, especially in the construction sector. Challenges include integrating new actors\, implementing new business models\, and managing increased costs and complexity while targeting sustainability. ‘Zero-kilometer’ material recovery lowers cost and generates local job opportunities. In South Tyrol\, cooperatives and social enterprises are already engaging in these material recovery activities\, involving vulnerable individuals while generating economic and social value. \nThe workshop “Circular economy\, construction\, and social sustainability: new projects\, synergies and opportunities in South Tyrol” aims to promote a dialogue between local companies in the construction sector\, social enterprises\, cooperatives\, and local administrators to support the transition to a sustainable circular economy. \nEurac Research will present new projects and services to enhance circularity in the construction sector\, focusing on the recovery and reuse of building components and the involvement of social enterprises for the circular economy. The workshop will also showcase best practices from local start-ups and social enterprises\, engaging participants in a guided discussion on the synergies to be activated to promote a sustainable circular model in South Tyrol. \nThe event is organized within the framework of the projects ECLECTIC and ATTENTION. \nLanguage: The event will be conducted in Italian. Simultaneous translation is not provided. \nRegistration: For organizational reasons\, registration is required. SUMMARY:Nordic Urban Futures
DESCRIPTION:Public lecture with Romina Rodela\, Senior Researcher and Associate Professor in Environmental Governance and Management at Södertörn University\, Sweden and UNESCO Chair Fellow \n\n\n\nUrban areas are facing growing challenges such as climate change\, population growth\, and the need for sustainable development. In response\, “urban futuring” initiatives are emerging\, which use speculative thinking and creativity to imagine more sustainable urban futures. These initiatives aim to inspire collective action by envisioning better alternative futures and are particularly prominent in Sweden\, where they involve collaboration with local actors. This lecture will present the findings from a project that mapped 62 urban futuring activities across Sweden\, highlighting their diversity\, focus on vulnerable areas\, and the increasing role of civil society in shaping equitable and resilient urban futures. \n\n\n\nLanguage: English \nRegistration: Microsoft Virtual Events Powered by Teams \n\n\n\nEvent website: Nordic Urban Futures – Eurac Research

SUMMARY:Das Anthropozän - Der Mensch und sein unumkehrbarer Einfluss auf den Planeten

SUMMARY:EURAC - The Energy Gamble: Transatlantic friends or foes?
DESCRIPTION:In this seminar\, Shanti Gamper-Rabindran will share insights into her book America’s Energy Gamble\, which details how political\, financial\, and legal institutions entrench fossil fuel dependency\, but also how efforts to shift to costcompetitive renewable energy have gained traction in the United States. She will also discuss the increasing focus on “decarbonization” strategies that might be considered questionable (i.e. carbon capture and storage). This will be followed by interventions on EU climate and energy policies and their current shaping of the energy transition in the EU\, concluding with a discussion on whether in this energy gamble the US and the EU are friends or foes. \n  \nThe event is organized by the Center for Climate Change and Transformation (climate.change@eurac.edu).  \nNo registration is required\, the seminar will be conducted in English (no translation provided). \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n Loading...\n \n \n \n \n \n Taking too long?\n \n \n \n Reload document \n |\n \n Open in new tab
