SUMMARY:Grönland – Aus persönlicher und geopolitischer Perspektive
\nSprache: Deutsch \n\n\n\n\nProgramm: Nach einer kurzen Begrüßung von Simon De Zordo vom Club Alpbach Südtirol/Alto Adige moderiert Gabriel N. SUMMARY:Pricing Climate Emissions: Lessons on Efficiency and Fairness from Sweden
DESCRIPTION:A talk by Prof. Thomas Sterner (University of Gothenburg). This event is part of the Sustainability Colloquium hosted by the Center for Sustainability \nJoin us for a colloquium with Thomas Sterner\, a leading environmental economist\, who will examine how climate policy can be both economically efficient and socially fair. While carbon pricing is widely regarded as a cornerstone of effective climate policy\, it remains politically contested and unevenly implemented. \nDrawing on Sweden’s three decades of experience with carbon taxation\, this talk explores why pricing emissions works\, how it shapes innovation and behavior across sectors\, and what determines public acceptance. The Swedish case offers concrete lessons for countries seeking to align ambitious climate targets with economic competitiveness\, political feasibility\, and social justice. \nFollowing the presentation\, there will be time for discussion and questions\, and the event will conclude with an aperitivo\, offering an opportunity for informal exchange. \nAbout the speaker: \nProf. Thomas Sterner is Professor of Environmental Economics at the University of Gothenburg and one of the world’s leading scholars in environmental and resource economics. His research focuses on climate change\, biodiversity conservation\, environmental policy design\, and the use of economic instruments such as taxes\, subsidies\, and regulation to address environmental challenges. \nHe has served as an advisor to numerous international organizations and governments\, including the World Bank\, OECD\, UNEP\, and the European Commission\, and has contributed extensively to global climate and biodiversity policy debates. Prof. Sterner is also a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and has published widely in top academic journals and influential policy reports. \nLanguage: English \nFlyer: Global Minimum Tax- Justifications and Competitiveness Aspects_Poster A3.indd \nEvent website: Pricing Climate Emissions: Lessons on Efficiency and Fairness from Sweden / Free University of Bozen-Bolzano

SUMMARY:ZeroResidue: KICK-OFF MEETING

SUMMARY:Wenn Wälder brennen: Ursachen\, Risiken\, Resilienz

DESCRIPTION:This webinar is part of the online-series “Diversity Matters” promoted by the Center for Migration and Societal Change at Eurac Research. \nRegistrazione: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/3efab7f7-e000-44b9-8d33-5b36331e4ca7@92513267-03e3-401a-80d4-c58ed6674e3b \nSito web dell’evento: Diversity Matters: An interdisciplinary Webinar Series – Eurac Research \n

How can we help people face it with clarity\, confidence\, and a sense of purpose? \nThe World Climate Game is an interactive three-day\, app-supported board game about climate change and sustainability. Based on a scientifically grounded climate and economic simulation\, it shows how different aspects of the climate crisis are connected. \nThe game reflects real-world conditions. Players take on roles in politics\, business\, and civil society\, making decisions about the global economy\, geopolitics\, and social justice. They have a century (10 game rounds) to build an economically\, ecologically\, and socially sustainable order. Along the way\, they face the challenges of our time and work together to develop solutions through strategy\, cooperation\, and negotiation. \nIn collaboration with the student association KIKERO \nT: +39 0471 012 182 – kikero@unibz.it \nSustainability Festival: Instagram \nEvent website: https://www.unibz.it/en/events/world-climate-game-together-for-a-sustainable-future \nRegistration: https://eventregistration.unibz.it/Login.asp?IDcommessa=UN26016&Lang=IT

SUMMARY:From prototype to second life of PV modules: New performance test and strategies
DESCRIPTION:The event is aimed at companies operating in the PV industry and will foster discussion on prototyping\, testing and recovery of PV modules. \nThe spread of photovoltaics in Italy and in South Tyrol is growing and becoming more established thanks to ecological transition policies at the European\, national\, and provincial levels. Over the next decade\, we will witness a significant increase in photovoltaic installations\, accompanied by the development of new technologies such as Tandem cells and perovskite. At the same time\, with the gradual aging of existing systems\, it will become increasingly important to develop sustainable strategies for lifecycle management and for the reuse of photovoltaic modules. \nWhy is this topic important for us? The Institute for Renewable Energy of Eurac Research\, since its foundation\, has carried out applied research on photovoltaic systems located at the NOI Techpark in Bolzano. The laboratories offer services for performance and reliability testing on commercial products\, as well as prototype and new product line development. Specifically\, the Institute offers the following services for companies operating in the photovoltaic sector: \n\nsupporting the development of new product lines;\ncarrying out sample-based quality checks on production batches from manufacturing lines;\nconducting research activities and laboratory testing in collaboration with companies and research institutions in order to make new technologies market-ready;\nperforming quality checks on samples of modules intended for new installations to verify compliance with the performance declared by the manufacturer;\nperforming quality checks on samples of modules from existing plants to evaluate their purchase on the second hand market;\nperforming quality checks on end-of-life module samples intended for reuse in other plants.\n\nThe event will be dedicated to the present and future of photovoltaic modules and will represent an opportunity for discussion between research and companies in the sector. New methodologies for performance testing\, photovoltaic module development\, and strategies for their reuse will be explored. A guided tour of the Eurac Research laboratories will follow\, including the Solar-PV Lab and the PV Integration Lab\, during which the new equipment for photovoltaic module prototyping and testing will be showcased. \nLanguage: Italian \nEvent website: From prototype to second life of PV modules: New performance test and strategies – Eurac Research

SUMMARY:What about the future? Re-opening horizons: philosophy of history and global challenges
DESCRIPTION:Public lecture with Elia Zaru\, political theorist and historian of political thought at the University of Milan and Stiftung Südtiroler Sparkasse Global Fellow 2026 \nContemporary societies increasingly orient themselves toward the past\, while the future contracts into a space of limited possibility. Terms such as post-truth and post-democracy signal not only conceptual fatigue but also a broader temporal shift that underpins what Elia Zaru calls a politics of the post: a mode of public reasoning that declares the present order as the only viable horizon. \nWithin this closure\, two apparently opposed tendencies converge. On the one hand\, the nostalgic appeal of Make America/Europe Great Again; on the other\, the identitarian strand of certain decolonial discourses seeking a return to an imagined pre-colonial origin. Despite their distance\, both rely on a reductive\, unilinear idea of history that narrows political imagination and weakens collective agency. This temporal impasse directly affects our ability to confront today’s global and local challenges: climate change\, democratic backsliding\, social inequalities\, and geopolitical fragmentation. In line with Eurac Research’s mission to generate knowledge for shaping future-oriented\, inclusive\, and sustainable policies\, the lecture explores alternative models of historical temporality – plural\, layered\, and conflictual rather than linear. \nRethinking the modern categories of progress and revolution as nonlinear\, critical tools can help reopen the horizon of the future. Reclaiming the future is not merely a theoretical gesture; it is a practical condition for designing transformative policies capable of addressing the global crises of our time. \nLanguage: English\nRegistration: no registration required \nEvent website: What about the future? SUMMARY:Beyond culture/ethnicity: shifting debates on gender-based violence in migration: A dialogue with Giacomo Orsini and Marina Della Rocca
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is part of the online-series “Diversity Matters: An interdisciplinary Webinar Series” promoted by the Center for Migration and Societal Change at Eurac Research. \nIn this webinar\, which is co-organized by the Center for Migration and Societal Change and the Gender Dynamics group of Eurac Research\, Dr Giacomo Orsini (Eurac Research) and Dr Marina Della Rocca (Competence Centre for Social Work\, Social Pedagogy and Social Policy -UNIBZ) critically approach gender-based violence in the context of migration. \nDrawing on several studies they have conducted in diverse European contexts (e.g.\, Belgium and Italy)\, Giacomo and Marina provide alternative perspectives on the occurrence of violence within migrants’ couples and families. As gender-based violence within migration attracts growing academic and public attention\, scholarly\, media and political debates tend to concentrate on the culture or ethnicity of the migrants to explain the seemingly high(er) frequency of such form of abuse in migrants’ households. The webinar critically engages with these debates which culturalize/ethnicize gender-based violence in migration\, to look instead at those structural constraints operating in the so-called “country of destination” to produce the conditions for such violence to happen. Administrative/bureaucratic and legal hurdles hit on migrants since they decide to emigrate up until they cross the border of the EU and (try to) settle in Europe. As showed in this webinar\, by operating as in/tangible boundaries\, migration policies and procedures shape profoundly the intimate love life of (racialised) migrants\, increasing the sources of everyday stress and trauma and\, with them\, the likelihood of domestic/gender-based violence to happen. Drawing on the Personal Aspirations and Processes of Adaptation: How the Legal framework Impacts on Migrants’ Agency (LIMA) project he joined between 2018 and 2020\, Dr Giacomo Orsini will discuss how (securitized/racist) migration policies operating within but also outside of family reunification in Belgium contribute (re)producing gender-based violence. Concurrently\, by focusing on the everyday experience of the same policies\, he also shows how migration governance operates to hinder battered migrants’ access to the available formal and informal protection services. Dr Marina Della Rocca will address the intersection between violence against women and migration from the perspective of support policies and practices. The presentation will examine the dynamics that reproduce structural barriers hindering migrant women’s efforts to leave situations of violence and will offer a critical reflection on processes of culturalization. The discussion draws on her ethnographic research in an anti-violence centre and on a study exploring understandings of violence against women and women’s empowerment from the perspective of women of different ages and backgrounds. The webinar series Diversity Matters explores the impact of migrations\, diversities and mobilities on increasingly superdiverse territorial realities. Hosted by the Center for Migration and Societal Change of Eurac Research\, the series is a forum for experts to share their work and expertise with an audience of fellow academics\, students\, decision-makers and practitioners. \nRegistration: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/4172ff1a-6ff7-4d0c-885d-912c462ead5e@92513267-03e3-401a-80d4-c58ed6674e3b \nEvent website: Diversity Matters: An interdisciplinary Webinar Series – Eurac Research

SUMMARY:Conflicts: methods and practices within the context of climate change
DESCRIPTION:The event is part of the “Lecture Series on Social-Ecological Transformation – 2026 Edition” \n\nThis year’s lecture series\, taking place on May 13th\, June 10th\, and October 14th\, will explore key dimensions of socioecological transformation in the context of climate change. \nSocio-ecological transformation requires continuous dialogue\, meaningful participation\, and strong institutional commitment across all levels of governance. \nThe first lecture examines climate citizens’ assemblies as bottom-up initiatives within participatory democracy\, highlighting their potential to foster more inclusive and democratic climate decision-making. In addition\, it will investigate limitations in advancing environmental justice and challenges to ensuring that deliberative outcomes are effectively integrated into governance and institutional processes. \nThe second lecture investigates conflict as a driver of transformation\, focusing on how tensions among actors can generate knowledge\, perspectives\, and more equitable solutions. \nThe third lecture broadens the perspective to public participation in climate governance\, emphasizing both its promises and limitations across different institutional contexts. \n11:30 Welcome and introduction  – Elisa Ravazzoli\, Center for Climate Change and Transformation & Institute for Regional Development\, Eurac Research Federica Maino\, Institute for Regional Development\, Eurac Research \n11:30-12:00 Conflict as a Driver of Socio-Ecological Transformation – Chiara Braucher\, University of TrentoThis study discusses how socio-environmental conflicts are an integral part of the socio-ecological transformation process within the context of climate crisis. They represent generative spaces for knowledge of co-production and a mechanism for democratizing climate policies. In a global landscape characterized by a dramatic increase in territorial disputes linked to mitigation and adaptation processes\, the lens of political ecology allows for an interpretation of conflict as an onto-epistemological laboratory. Within this space\, the contestation of topdown “green” solutions fosters the emergence of situated knowledge and alternative visions of the future\, challenging the ontologies underlying technological choices. Proposing conflict as a transformative space means recognizing that the response to climate change is not only a technical challenge but a political process of renegotiating relationships—essential for a transition that is not only ecological but also just. \n12:00-12:30 Preventing and Managing Environmental Conflict: The Experience of the Milan Chamber of Arbitration – Nicola Giudice\, Milan Chamber of Arbitration. This lecture will present the experience developed within the Mediation Service of the Milan Chamber of Arbitration in using mediation as a tool for the negotiated management of environmental conflicts. Building on this operational practice\, it will illustrate how the Chamber progressively developed a broader approach\, leading to the creation of the “FacilitAmbiente” project\, aimed at promoting facilitation in collective decision-making processes to prevent the emergence of environmental and social conflicts. These two complementary and still ongoing experiences highlight a key point: for sustainability to be effective and not merely declaratory\, it requires continuous and structured dialogue among all stakeholders involved — businesses\, institutions\, communities\, and citizens. \n12:30-13:00 Open discussion \n\nModeration: Federica Maino and Jessica Balest\, Eurac Research \n\n\nLanguage: English (no translation will be provided) \nRegistration: no registration required \nProgram: 1778161029-lectureseries-2026.pdf \nEvent website: Lecture Series on Social-Ecological Transformation – 2026 Edition – Eurac Research \nConnection link: MS Teams
