DESCRIPTION:DE_Infrastruktur zur vollständigen Valorisierung von Abfällen aus der Agrar- und Lebensmittelindustrie \nDie Freie Universität Bozen und das Versuchszentrum Laimburg laden Sie herzlich zum Kick-off Meeting des Projektes ZeroResidue – Projekt EFRE-FESR 1091 ein. \nDas Projekt zielt darauf ab\, eine Infrastruktur zur Verwertung von Abfällen aus der Agrarindustrie durch die Herstellung von bioaktiven Extrakten und Biokraftstoffen zu schaffen sowie Verfahren zur vollständigen Verwertung der Abfälle zu entwickeln. \nDas erste Ziel besteht darin\, umweltfreundliche Verfahren zur Gewinnung von bioaktiven Verbindungen mit hohem Mehrwert aus Abfällen zu testen und zu entwickeln sowie diese Produkte und Formulierungen im Pilotmaßstab bereitzustellen. Es werden vielfältige Dienstleistungen angeboten\, darunter die Charakterisierung und Analyse der Auswirkungen auf die Bereiche Wein und Gastronomie\, Lebensmittel\, Nutrazeutika\, Kosmetik und Biomedizin nach dem Extraktionsprozess. Zudem wird die Lieferkette vor dem Prozess unterstützt (z. B. die Lieferkette für die Verarbeitung von Trauben und Äpfeln)\, indem die Abfälle nach der Verarbeitung wiederverwendet werden (Upcycling). Zu den Dienstleistungen gehört auch die Charakterisierung der Produkte entsprechend den Anforderungen des jeweiligen Sektors. \nDas zweite Ziel ist die vollständige Wiederverwendung der Restabfälle\, insbesondere des nicht extrahierbaren Anteils. While carbon pricing is widely regarded as a cornerstone of effective climate policy\, it remains politically contested and unevenly implemented. \nDrawing on Sweden’s three decades of experience with carbon taxation\, this talk explores why pricing emissions works\, how it shapes innovation and behavior across sectors\, and what determines public acceptance. SUMMARY:Grönland – Aus persönlicher und geopolitischer Perspektive
DESCRIPTION:Vortrag und Diskussion über die aktuellen Entwicklungen auf der Arktisinsel. Persönliche Einblicke gibt der Südtiroler Robert Peroni\, der seit 40 Jahren in Grönland beheimatet ist. \n\n\nAm 20. Februar 2026 um 19.00 Uhr spricht Robert Peroni im Palais Toggenburg im Rahmen der CASA-Talks über sein Lebenswerk\, dem Roten Haus\, das er seit 30 Jahren als Gästehaus in Tasiilaq an der Ostküste Grönlands betreibt. In einem Land\, das noch keinen Tourismus kannte\, gibt er inzwischen 65 einheimischen Inuit eine Arbeit und schuf eine Begegnungsstätte zwischen Gästen aus dem Westen und den Grönländern. Über die schwierigen Anfänge\, die Lebensweise der indigenen Bevölkerung und die neuen geopolitischen Herausforderungen erfahren Sie mehr bei dem vom Institut für Minderheitenrecht von Eurac Research und dem Club Alpbach Südtirol/Alto Adige organisierten Salongespräch. \n\n\n\n\nVor 40 Jahren kam der damalige Extremsportler Robert Peroni im Zuge einer Expedition nach Grönland\, die sein gesamtes Leben veränderte. Von den 56 000 Einwohnern Grönlands sind 47 000 Inuits und 9 000 dänischen Ursprungs. 80 % der 2\,16 Mio. km² Landfläche sind von Eis bedeckt (Südtirol im Vergleich: 540.000 Einwohner und 7.400 km²). An der Ostküste Grönlands\, mit dem Hauptort Tasiilaq\, wo der Südtiroler Peroni seine zweite Heimat gefunden hat\, leben etwa 3.000 Menschen hinter dem bis zu 3 km dicken Eispanzer\, entlang dem 20.000 km langen\, aber nur wenige Kilometer schmalen eisfreien Küstenstreifen\, zwischen Inlandeis und Nordmeer. Seit der Gründung des Roten Hauses vor mehr als 30 Jahren bietet Peroni einem Teil der Bevölkerung Tasiilaqs ein gesichertes Einkommen sowie neue Perspektive und Anerkennung. Denn der ursprünglich nomadischen Lebensweise\, die auf der Jagd nach Meeressäugern wie Robben\, Wale oder Eisbären sowie Fischfang basierte\, wurde durch Tier- und Naturschützer\, Handelsboykotte und in zunehmendem Ausmaß durch den Klimawandel die Grundlage entzogen. Im Jahr 1979 erhielt Grönland vom dänischen Staat eine weitreichende territoriale Autonomie. Nach dem Beitritt Dänemarks zur Europäischen Gemeinschaft (EG) 1973 sollte die Sonderautonomie die Fischerei-Erträge der Grönländer vor dem europäischen Binnenmarkt schützen. 1985 wurde das Gebiet Grönlands aus dem EU-Territorium ausgegliedert und wird seither im Verhältnis zur EU als Überseegebiet eingestuft. Ende 2008 stimmten 76 % der Grönländer für einen weiteren Ausbau der Autonomie\, und führende Politiker streben die Unabhängigkeit von Dänemark erst mittel- bis langfristig an. Bis zu den massiven Besitzansprüchen von US-Präsident Donald Trump scheiterten diese Bestrebungen auch an der finanziellen Abhängigkeit von jährlich 375 Mio. US-Dollar\, mit denen die wirtschaftliche Lage vom Staat Dänemark gestützt wird. Jetzt ist den Menschen in Grönland nichts wichtiger als ihre Freiheit und Unabhängigkeit von den USA\, so Peroni. DESCRIPTION:L’economia dell’idrogeno tra visioni e pratiche: evidenze dal progetto Hydro nelle province di Trento e Bolzano \nIl 12 febbraio 2026 presso il NOI Techpark di Bolzano si terrà l’evento di chiusura del processo partecipato del progetto HYDRO\, un percorso di ricerca e co-progettazione dedicato allo sviluppo dell’economia dell’idrogeno nelle province di Trento e Bolzano. L’iniziativa rappresenta un momento pubblico di restituzione dei risultati emersi dal progetto e un’occasione di confronto tra istituzioni\, mondo accademico e attori territoriali sul ruolo dell’idrogeno nella mobilità sostenibile post-PNRR. \nLa giornata si aprirà con i saluti istituzionali di figure di riferimento del territorio e dell’Università di Bolzano\, seguiti dall’introduzione della responsabile del progetto\, Federica Viganò. DESCRIPTION:Licheni ed epifite non vascolari nel microclima forestale: guardare al piccolo per capire il grande \nNegli ecosistemi forestali\, il microclima gioca un ruolo cruciale nel determinare la distribuzione degli organismi e nel regolare importanti processi ecologici. Tra questi\, le comunità epifite non vascolari\, come licheni e briofite\, sono particolarmente sensibili alle variazioni di temperatura e umidità e contribuiscono in modo significativo agli scambi di acqua ed energia all’interno del bosco. Tuttavia\, il loro ruolo nel funzionamento degli ecosistemi forestali è spesso trascurato. L’incontro approfondisce il ruolo del microclima forestale nel modellare le comunità epifite non vascolari e le loro risposte alle variazioni ambientali. DESCRIPTION:Workshop per supportare la transizione verso spazi abitativi salubri\, confortevoli ed efficienti \nIl mondo delle costruzioni è storicamente caratterizzato da un ritmo di innovazione più lento rispetto ad altri settori\, è guidato prevalentemente dalle richieste del mercato e da logiche di breve periodo. Tuttavia\, i crescenti cambiamenti climatici e socio-economici richiedono oggi l’adozione di strategie concrete e di lungo periodo per affrontare in modo efficace le sfide della mitigazione e dell’adattamento. \nGli edifici sono responsabili di una quota significativa delle emissioni globali di CO2 durante tutto il loro ciclo di vita. Ridurre questo impatto è una priorità. Gli edifici sono chiamati ad affrontare questa sfida che deve essere affrontata riducendo al minimo il consumo energetico\, garantendo ambienti interni salubri e confortevoli\, in linea con le esigenze delle persone\, con soluzioni affidabili e sostenibili anche dal punto di vista economico e sociale. \nL’involucro edilizio\, inteso come interfaccia tra ambiente interno ed esterno\, assume un ruolo strategico e sta evolvendo verso soluzioni sempre più multifunzionali e adattive. DESCRIPTION:Kein alpiner Rasen ist ihnen zu steil und kein Lebensraum zu abgelegen: Seit 2019 untersucht das Team des Biodiversitätsmonitorings Südtirol (BMS) landesweit Flora und Fauna in verschiedensten Habitaten. Die langfristig angelegte Studie ist im Alpenraum einzigartig und ermöglicht durch Wiederholungen alle fünf Jahre\, ökologische Veränderungen sichtbar zu machen. Südtirol zählt zu den Hotspots Mitteleuropas\, steht jedoch zunehmend unter Druck. Der Report 2019–2024 zeigt zahlreiche neue Erkenntnisse und Erstfunde sowie Empfehlungen zum Schutz der Biodiversität. Diese Themen stehen im Mittelpunkt des Colloquiums vom 14. Jänner 2026\, gestaltet von den Forschenden Andreas Hilpold und Chiara Paniccia. \nNessun prato alpino è troppo ripido e nessun habitat troppo isolato: dal 2019 il team del Biodiversity Monitoring Südtirol (BMS) studia la flora e la fauna dell’Alto Adige in una vasta gamma di ambienti. SUMMARY:Future lost? Warum der Kampf gegen den Klimawandel zu scheitern droht
DESCRIPTION:Ein Diskussionsabend mit dem Soziologen und Bestseller-Autor Jens Beckert über das Versagen im Abwenden der Klimakrise \nWir verkaufen unsere Zukunft. Nicht anders lässt sich erklären\, weshalb Klimaschutz immer wieder aufgeschoben wird\, obwohl wir seit Jahrzehnten um die Klimaerwärmung und ihre gefährlichen Folgen wissen. In Wirtschaft\, Politik und Gesellschaft des Globalen Nordens liegt der Fokus weiterhin stark auf Quartalsgewinnen\, Wählerstimmen und Konsumtrends\, während sich die Welt auf einen deutlichen Anstieg der Durchschnittstemperatur einstellen muss. Probleme werden in eine unbestimmte Zukunft verschoben. Eine Zukunft\, die nicht mehr offen und planbar erscheint\, und gerade deshalb umso bedrohlicher wirkt. \nWeshalb scheitert die kapitalistische Moderne so eklatant an ihren eigenen Strukturen? Wie kann die Unterstützung für Klimaschutz in der Gesellschaft gestärkt werden\, auch wenn es bedeutet\, bestehende Lebensweisen aufzugeben? Wie können wir eine soziale Widerstandsfähigkeit aufbauen\, die auf uns zukommenden Auseinandersetzungen standhalten kann? Diese Fragen sind Forschungsschwerpunkt von Jens Beckert\, Direktor am Max-Planck-Institut für Gesellschaftsforschung und Professor für Soziologie an der Universität zu Köln. In seinem Bestseller „Verkaufte Zukunft. Warum der Kampf gegen den Klimawandel zu scheitern droht“ geht er dem Zögern moderner Gesellschaften in der Klimakrise auf den Grund und formuliert Aufgaben für eine realistische Klimapolitik – so auch im Vortrag am Forschungszentrum Eurac Research in Bozen. \nIm Anschluss an den Vortrag findet eine Podiumsdiskussion mit lokalen Akteurinnen und Akteuren statt. Lehr- und Forschungsaufenthalte führten ihn unter anderem nach Princeton\, Harvard und Paris. Für seine Arbeiten zur Wirtschafts- und Gesellschaftssoziologie erhielt er zahlreiche Auszeichnungen\, darunter 2018 den Gottfried‑Wilhelm‑Leibniz‑Preis. SUMMARY:Food\, Waste\, and Sustainability: Synergizing Ontology Efforts
DESCRIPTION:About the Workshop \nDescription and Aims \nNowadays\, waste\, especially that of food and plastics deriving from human consumption and activities along food supply chains\, poses serious concerns both in terms of human health and resilience and sustainability of food systems. While being a source of possible disease outbreaks and attracting wild animals to urban settlements\, food waste is correlated with reduced efficiency in water and energy usage and an increase in CO2 gas emissions. Contamination of agricultural soils and environments by plastics and microplastics is threatening the life of numerous species. As micro- and nanoplastics have also been detected in human tissues\, they raise questions regarding human well-being. These are just a few examples. \nBy fostering data annotation\, organization\, and interoperation\, ontologies ensure that datasets\, systems\, and people can be interconnected. This is a critical step to effectively deal with complex and widespread health and sustainability issues\, such as food and plastic waste. \nIn the last decades\, efforts in ontology development mainly focused on health and related features\, as witnessed by many of the resources provided by the Open Biological and Biomedical Ontology (OBO) Foundry. Recently\, attention has also been given to modeling sustainability issues\, which resulted in ontologies like Sustainability Core Ontology (SCO)\, Sustainable Development Goals Interface Ontology (SDGIO)\, Sustainable Met Systems Ontology (SuMSO)\, and Sustainable Development and Climate (SDC) Ontology. It is imperative to enhance interconnectedness among these ontologies and related applications. In particular\, it will be important to communicate across different ontology communities to adequately capture the intrinsic connections between health and sustainability. \nThe Food\, Waste\, and Sustainability: Synergizing Ontology Efforts 2025 Workshop\, held as part of the 16th International Conference on Biological and Biomedical Ontology (ICBO 2025)\, aims at promoting discussions in this direction\, focusing on waste as a starting use case. We plan three main sessions. In the first session\, we will explore present conceptualizations of waste within food systems\, with a particular emphasis on food and plastic waste. Attention will be primarily placed on deriving challenges and opportunities concerning human health\, resilience\, and sustainability of those systems. The second session will be dedicated to existing and work-in-progress ontologies. We will conversate on how such conceptualizations of the realm of food and plastic waste are implemented in computable ontological models\, knowledge graphs\, and related applications\, tracking down similarities and discrepancies. In the third session\, we will engage in an open discussion with experts in the field. Conversations will concentrate on how to synergize sustainability and health ontologies across ontology communities\, for harmonizing and interconnecting existing conceptualizations and representations of food systems waste.
