SUMMARY:Safe Travels: Child protection and sustainable hospitality
DESCRIPTION:Safeguarding children is a cornerstone of social sustainability\, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 16.2) and the Framework Convention on Tourism Ethics (UNWTO\, 2019). Addressing child abuse – whether through the exploitation of labour\, trafficking\, or sexual abuse – is essential\, and stakeholders in tourism must take an active role in preventing the mistreatment of minors. Organized by the Eurac Research Center for Advanced Studies\, the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt\, and the Gregorian Pontifical University’s Institute of Anthropology (IADC)\, in collaboration with ECPAT\, this international forum brings together experts from the hospitality industry\, NGOs\, and academia to tackle the critical issue of child protection in tourism. The forum serves as a platform to share best practices\, raise awareness\, and promote actionable prevention strategies. It aims to foster collaboration\, enhance cross-border cooperation\, and encourage long-term commitment to protecting children’s rights while advancing sustainable and ethical tourism practices. \nLanguage: Italian and English with simultaneous translation \nProgramme: \n\n\n\n\n\nMorning session: Keynote speeches and discussion \n10:00\n\n\nWelcome coffee and registration \n\n\n\n10:30\n\n\nInstitutional greetings\nMark Lewis\, Rector\, Pontifical Gregorian University\nMichele Gianola\, Director\, Office for Free Time\, Tourism and Sport of the Italian Episcopal Conference \nIntroduction\nHarald Pechlaner\, Founding Chair\, School of Transformation and Sustainability\, Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt \n\n\n\n\n10:45\n\nChild protection in tourism: a global overview\nGuillaume Landry\, Executive Director\, ECPAT International \n\n\n\n11:00\n\nFighting child abuse: safeguarding\, theology and care\nHans Zollner\, Director\, Institute of Anthropology IADC\, Pontifical Gregorian University \n\n\n\n11:15\n\nGrounding sustainable tourism through care\nGiulia Isetti and Elisa Piras\, Senior Researchers\, Center for Advanced Studies\, Eurac Research \n\n\n\n11:30\n\nCorporate responsibility: instruments for child protection\nAntje Monshausen\, Director\, ECPAT Germany \n\n\n\n11:45\n\nQ&A \n\n\n\n12:30\n\nLunch break \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfternoon session: Sharing experiences about child protection in tourism \n\n13:30\n\nMeeting with the press \n\n\n\n14:00\n\n\nBest practices from abroad: three case studies \n\nNo one asks children\, right?\nMarko Koščak\, Associate Professor\, Faculty of Tourism\, Maribor University\nSex tourism in Malindi and the measures taken by the Diocese\nBernard Malasi\, Diocese of Malindi\, Kenya\nChild protection in tourism: insights and best practices from Mexico\nThais Loera Ochoa\, Executive Secretary\, SIPINNA – National System for the Comprehensive Protection of Girls\, Boys and Adolescents\n\n\n\n\n\n15:00\n\n\nDiscussion \n\nAlessandro Nucara\, General Director\, Federalberghi\nAntonio Barreca\, General Director\, Federturismo\nAlessandra Priante\, President\, ENIT – Italian National Tourism Agency\nYasmin Abo Loha\, Secretary General\, ECPAT Italy ETS\nFederica Giannotta\, Advocacy and Program Manager\, Terre des Hommes Italy\n\n\n\n\n\n16:30\n\nWrap-up and conclusion\nHarald Pechlaner and Hans Zollner \n\n\n\n17:00\n\nFinal remarks and aperitif
